Hello Everyone!
Did you know we have a meetup group? We are also having an Open Studios Weekend this June 5th and 6th in Peekskill, NY.

This Next Saturday Morning’s meeting at the Peekskill Coffee House at 11am is specific to Peekskill’s Open Studios which is sponsored and put on by both the Peekskill Arts Council and the Peekskill BID (Business Improvement District). It is scheduled for June 5th & 6th. This will be here before you know it.

This event is somewhat being handled differently than in years past, and for those who have yet to be a part of this most interesting and lively weekend in Peekskill, I wish to share with those of you artists how to be involved in promoting their studio, their art, etc. – the hows, the whats and the wheres, etc.

I am working for the BID in assisting with the coordination of the Open Studios Weekend, which in turn give us as individual artists a great chance and opportunity to help come together collectively to promote this group, us, and our local Artists.

As some of you may already know, The Peekskill Arts Council does offer several opportunities for artists to be involved for this weekend, and well the Peekskill BID is offering additional areas where Artists can showcase their work as well….

Some great ideas are swirling around our heads, but we would also like to hear about some ideas from you too! Hence why we want to hear from you at this meeting if you can join us – and if not, send me an email with your ideas!

Whether you can attend this meeting not, please provide the following information, so that I may add it to our several online resources for promoting….provide this information whether you are in the BID or not – such as The Hat Factory area, we want to promote your art as well!

This is about the BID promoting your art and about this group promoting its artists as individuals, so I will need your names, and links to your websites, an email address, telephone number, details on what you are doing for the Open Studios Weekend, say like a reception at 1pm on Saturday for example.

If you are going to have your studio open, please provide the following
1) name of artist
2) name of shop/studio
3) address of studio
4) phone # of shop/studio
5) web url/ website address

I would also like to confirm those names of those artists who are going to be involved, whether in their own studio, or not, they might like to showcase some of their work in my own artist loft.

I am hosting an art show of my own new work with the subject theme being generally about Peekskill , and I invite any who wish to be a part of this show which will be at my artist loft in Peekskill.

Your artwork need not be about Peekskill, but wished to give those artists who might not have access to a studio in Peekskill, a chance to show their art at the City-wide event.

I already have art from two of our artists who are already a part of this group.

Even dropping off your postcards, business cards, etc. Let’s get a groovin’ and showcase our art!

Warm Regards,

Leah Q.

Arts Day 2010 February 24th, 2010

Hey New York! – http://www.nysarts.org/Advocacy2010/ADVOCACY_HQ_2010/Arts_Day_2010.htmlTake Action!

Call your legislator – make an appointment.

We must defend the investment the state makes in funding the arts. We must also be mindful that in this environment and in this economy, we must demonstrate how state funding helps communities and families and contributes to the economy and social vitality of the state. But at the same time, we must recognize the pain and distress around us as the economy plays havoc with those families and communities.

We need to be vigilant. Legislators need to see us and hear from us.

Sign up now for Arts Day 2010 by going to their website – link is above and is provided below.

The Facts:

The Governor’s proposed 2010-11 budget was released today. Here is the bottom line:

Local assistance (grants) funding was cut $6.5 million or 15.5% to $35,150 million.

NYSCA Operations budget was cut $644,000 or 10% to $4.838 million, requiring a reorganization and reduction of the NYSCA workforce by 10 positions.

The link provided below has links to the state budget if you want to review the text and the numbers for yourself.

Remember that the local assistance (grants) budget must be approved and/or changed by the Legislature. The State operations budget comes under the purview of the Governor and the Legislature does not play a role in determining that budget.

Legislators need to see us and hear from us.

Sincerely,Judith K. Weiner
